How to find septic records for a house in Pierce County

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department keeps septic records (permits, system designs, inspections and repairs) by parcel number. 70,675 of the 329,237 lots in Pierce County have at least one record in its online index.

  1. Find the lot's parcel number: search its address on Colvos Parcel, or on the county assessor's site.
  2. Look the parcel up in the health department's document search, edocs.tpchd.org. Colvos Parcel links each record it finds.
  3. Read the as-built drawing first: it shows where the tank and drain field are and how big the system is.
  4. No record found does not mean no system: older records are on microfilm and are found by parcel number on request.
